Kasautii Zindagii Kay (Trials of Life) is an Indian romantic drama television series produced by Ekta Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms.^[2] It premiered on September 25 2018 on Star Plus.^[3] It is a reboot of the 2001 series Kasautii Zindagii Kay. It stars Parth Samthaan, Erica Fernandes and Hina Khan who play Anurag Basu, Prerna Sharma and Komolika Chaubey.^[4][5]

Plot[edit]

Anurag basu and prerna sharma are meant to fall in love with each other but has to go through several trials for their togetherness.

Anurag and prerna's fathers, Moloy basu and Rajesh sharma are best friends however anurag 's mother mohini and sister nivedita dislike the sharma family and leave no chance to mock them for their poor status and dependence on their family. Soon mohini's namesake brother Naveen makes an entry and expreeses his desire to marry prerna. Along with Mohini ,he blackmails prerna into accepting his proposal in exchange of the Sharma family's house papers. Anurag suspects naveen and soon learns that he has a history of marrying woman for selling them into human trafficking. After much failure, he succeeds in exposing Naveen and breaking off his marriage with prerna. In the meantime Anurag and prerna fall in love with each other. While prerna realises her love,anurag is confused about his feelings for her.

The day prerna decides to propose anurag, his former girlfriend Mishka makes a comback in his life .In order to seperate prerna from anurag, Mohini announces the engagement of Anurag and Mishka leaving prerna heartbroken. Amidst all this Mishka's sister, Komolika makes an entry, an arrogant and self-obsessive woman who enjoys male attention.

After getting engaged to Mishka, Anurag realises his love for prerna .Soon,Naveen makes a re entry and kidnaps prerna to forcibly marry her. However Anurag rescues prerna and the two confess their love for one another. On the other hand Komolika starts lusting for Anurag. While Anurag calls off his engagement with Mishka, Komolika decides to create misunderstanding between the couple and brainwash the basu family against prerna. When Moloy and Rajesh confronts her, she has them gravely injured in an accident. While Moloy slips into coma, Rajesh succumbs to his injuries.

After Moloy's accident , the basu publications starts sinking and the family are on the verge of turning into bankrupts which is a scheme of Komolika and her father, Siddhant chaubey.With no other option left anurag seeks Komolika's help who blackmails him to accept her marriage proposal in return for his company's stability and the Sharma family housing papers .With a heavy heart, Anurag gets engaged to Komolika. When prerna confronts him, he humiliates her and abuses their love infront of everyone leaving her complelety shattered and heatbroken. While Anurag and komolika get married, prerna realises she is pregnant with his child.

On the next day, Prerna shows up at the Basu mansion claming to be Anurag's first wife and proving his marriage with Komolika illegal. She explains how she and anurag secretly got married in an temple after proposing to each other. Komolika tries various ways to get rid of prerna however her tactics only pushes anurag more closer to prerna. Aware of Komolika's dangerous side, he starts faking love for her only to evoke hatred in Prerna's heart .However prerna falls suspicious on his actions and senses Anurag's love for her .

Soon Moloy recovers from coma however ends up in a paralytic state where he is unable to speak and hear. Moloy is delighted to see Anurag and prerna married. Soon prerna exposes Komolika's crimes and has her kicked out of the basu family.

Shweta Kesari from India Today said, 'Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes beautifully fit into the shoes of punctual Anurag and carefree Prerna. The grandeur and magnificence of the show will make your jaw drop. The makers have tried to retain the essence of Kolkata and Bengalis. Overall the show is a complete package of entertainment for soap viewers!'^[6]

Soumya Srivastava from Hindustan Times described the show as 'louder and garnish' and wrote that, 'The background score is excessive. It plays without reason and way too often. Whether the scene demands it or not, a joyful, somber or a comical tone is always there to force your brain into thinking that this is how you are supposed to feel right now.^[7]

Times Now commented that, 'The reboot takes you in the lives of Anurag and Prerna that were part of our every day lives and the first episode is all about nostalgia of the epic Kasautii Zindagii Kay.' ^[8]
